Raw Food Diet Reviews
By John Davenport Platinum Quality Author

There's no doubt that going back to nature is in fashion. It's a trend that's effecting all aspects of life. Nutrition is just one of them and the Raw Food diet is probably the most "natural" program there is. The Raw Food diet isn't just one diet plan, but a general name for various programs which advocate eating food in its natural form, avoiding processed and industrialized dishes, and going back to a more harmonized way of eating.

There is no doubt that there is some merit to the raw food diet. As expert nutritionist Yuri Elkaim shows in his program, Eating For Energy, there is something terribly wrong in our society healthwise. Not only are we getting fatter and fatter, but we're also getting sicker. Despite tremendous advances in medicine, Cancer, Diabetes, and Heart disease are on the rise. This is something which is going to affect each and every one of us or our loved ones.

All this disease and obesity has a lot to do with our modern lifestyle. It's easy to see that less developed countries don't suffer from these diseases as much as we do. Naturally, they have their own problems, but it seems as if we've beaten many illnesses only to let others take their place. And this time, it's our fault.

Already, industrialized agriculture is producing lower quality food and stuffing our meat with antibiotics and other chemicals. Raw Foods dietists believe that we're upsetting the internal nature of the food we eat, the food we are "supposed" to eat through years of evolution.

A raw food diet is usually a vegetarian, if not vegan, diet. You do not eat meat and dairy and eggs. You get your protein from nuts, beans, soy, and other plants. And yes, there are a lot of plant protein sources to be found. The same goes for fats and carbs. Many experts believe that we can get all the nutrients we need from plants, herbs, nuts, and grains. We can even build muscle tissue while doing it.

There is no doubt that a lot of people lose weight when going on a such a diet. A lot of people also report and improvement in other aspects of life, from allergies, through fatigue, to an improved wellbeing. It is the food we put inside us that fuels us forward, that determines how much we're vulnerable to disease and weight gain. While I may not give up my meat and eggs entirely, there is certainly a lot to be said about incorporating a lot of the principles in the Raw Food diet into your day to day life.

Still Dreading a Raw Food Diet Detox?
By Swayze Foster Platinum Quality Author

This past Thursday, I talked about the dreaded diet detox and how the length and detoxification symptoms from eliminating cooked foods and beginning a raw food diet are really not so scary.

You should expect a headache or two, some achy joints, and low energy for a few days.

That's really it!

With that said, I do realize that there are some people - like those coming from cases of chronic disease or who consume severely nutrient-deficient and toxic foods (i.e. fast food) - who are worried about experiencing a more severe detox.

As I mentioned last time, the more toxic load you regularly place on your body, the more long-lasting and uncomfortable your detox symptoms will be when you reduce the load and go raw.

But no worries! There is a way - a super simple way, of course - to adopt a healthy raw food diet without fear of yucky detox symptoms.

Transition Slowly

Adopting a raw food diet does not mean that you have to go 100% raw right away.

In fact, this usually is not the best plan. It is much easier and much less stressful on your physiology and psyche to gradually replace the cooked foods you already eat with tasty raw fruits and veggies.

And you can do this at whatever pace you want!

For instance, an easy way to get started is simply by replacing your breakfast meal with fruit. Eat as much fruit as you want so that you are satiated for 3-5 hours after eating. This is completely doable for most people because

a) most people do not experience cravings until later in the day

b) most people do not eat breakfast anyway

So this is a plus for most people because they now get to start their day with a healthy and delicious meal!

And, of course, there's more than one way to transition.

There's the 75% raw method (sweet fruit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ending with a cooked dish). There's the "as much fruit as you want before each meal" method.

There's also Tonya Kay's No-Willpower Approach to transitioning to raw.

She's such a cutie!:)

By transitioning to a raw food diet slowly, your body will gradually be able to release waste and adjust to the lower toxicity level. This way, you will bypass most or even all of the detox symptoms.

Want to Up the Ante?

For those of you brave souls wanting to blast through your detox as quickly as possible, there's no better option than fasting. A short 1-2 day fast (that means nothing but water and lots of rest) followed by completely clean eating will allow the body the opportunity it needs for some serious repair work.

I only recommend a short fast of no more than 2 days (which is not technically a fast) because long-term fasting requires extensive knowledge, experience, and often outside care. If you are interested in a long-term fast, be sure to check out Dr. Graham's Costa Rica Fasting Retreat.

Go raw and be fit,

Is a Raw Food Diet Good For You?
By John Elkington Platinum Quality Author
v

There are a number of different reasons why people would eat a raw food diet. Some people go on a diet such as this in order to detoxify and to get rid of many of the poisons that are clogging up their system. It is also possible that you want to eat raw food in order to naturally cut back on the amount of calories that you are consuming. To be certain, it is an excellent thing to do. There may be another reason, however, why a raw food diet may be the best thing for you.

The body has an amazing ability to heal itself that is often seen whenever a severe injury or illness is overcome. Unfortunately, we often treat our body with such disrespect in the things that we eat and drink that we take away the natural ability of the body to do these things. By switching over to a raw food diet, you are actually giving your body the ability to take care of itself and many people that do this are amazed with the differences that they can feel and see.

The unfortunate thing is, it is difficult to eat a diet that is comprised 100% of raw fruits and vegetables. That is not any reason to throw in the towel, however, as a diet that is high in these type of items is also very beneficial for you. It is really the best of both worlds, giving you the opportunity to help your body to be the best it can be while at the same time, not being so strict on yourself that you give up out of frustration.

Eating For Energy - Raw Food Diets
By Matt Hoffer

An increasingly popular form of dieting today is the raw food diet. The raw food diet mainly consists of raw fruits and vegetables as well as fresh juices. Other foods like seeds, grains, and nuts are good for this the diet as well as seaweed. These foods must be organic and/or whole foods for the diet to provide it's full health benefits. There are many benefits to partaking of a raw food diet that will improve the health of your body and mind. The most important is the principle that eating for energy is key to maintaining heath.

When cooking above one hundred and sixteen degrees, enzymes inside of the food start to break down and are destroyed. When eating a raw food diet you do not lose these enzymes that help you to make the best use of the nutrients they contain. Raw foods also retain a higher nutritional value compared to cooked foods. Foods that are cooked at temperatures above one hundred and sixteen degrees do not only lose enzymes, they much of their nutrient content.

There are many methods to cook raw foods and have them retain all of the things healthy for you. By using a blender, you can make many different shakes, smoothies and drinks from fruits and vegetables. You can find different blender recipes on the internet, in books or even on TV that will give you a spectacular taste.

Another way to add to your raw food diet is to employ a juicer. These appliances will turn fruit or vegetable into juices. Many fruit juices like orange and pomegranate juices are very healthy for you. There are many vegetables that are great tasting and great for you in a juice form, especially if you want an immediate high source of fiber.

You can purchase dried fruits at a local store. Dried fruits are a great addition to the raw food diet. These are not only tasty and sweet but are still packed full of vitamins and make a great snack.

Dehydration is another option for cooking when on the raw food diet. By dehydrating fruits and vegetables in a dehydrator, you can make many different recipes. Most people like seaweed once it is prepared by dehydrating it. Not only does it have an exotic flavor but can give you many important nutrients.

A thing to keep in mind is that with all the different methods to cook raw foods most of the recipes you make you will make from scratch. There are not prepackaged raw food diet packs that you can buy. This is mainly your responsibility to pick how and what you make. You will have to choose between recipes that you like and ones you do not but there are many raw food diet recipes and cookbooks.

There are many pluses to going on the raw food diet but there can some side effects as well. If you were a person that had meat in their diet along with junk food, you might experience a detoxifying effect as you begin a raw food regimen. As these toxins leave your body, you might have some stomachaches or headaches. Nevertheless, these are very mild and are not a serious medical problem. Your body just needs to readjust.

However, the plusses to eating for energy and starting on a raw food diet include reduced risks of cancer, diabetes and heart problems, weight loss, healthier skin and a general sense of well being. So, if you are looking to eat healthier or lose weight why not give the raw foods diet a try?

The Raw Food Diet
By Jennifer Hughs

The Raw food diet is easy and effective. It not only works to lose weight, however, it improves your health. This diet helps you feel energized. The theory behind the diet is that a large part of cooked food turns into fat production, because heat and acid change it, making it un-metabolizable in other complex processes. On the other hand, raw food should break down into components which can be directly metabolized in a variety of cells.

In the Raw food diet your intake is based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods. When you heat foods above one hundred and sixteen degrees Fahrenheit, you are destroying enzymes in food that can assist in the digestion and absorption of food. It also is thought that when one cooks food, you are diminishing the nutritional value of food.

The diet is almost all living or raw foods. The Raw food diet is great because there are numerous health benefits. It not only increases your energy, but it improves your skin appearance, betters your digestion, improves your weight loss, and reduces your risk of heart disease. Unlike other diets, the raw food diet contains less trans fat and saturated fat. It also is low in sodium, high in potassium.

So, are you wondering what you can eat? The answer is anything unprocessed, preferably organic, whole foods such as: fruit, vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, dried fruit, seaweed, legumes, dried fruit, unprocessed organic or natural foods, freshly juiced fruit and vegetables, purified water, and young coconut milk. Delicious!

If you are interested in some good preparation techniques, you could: Sprout seeds grains and beans, juice vegetables and fruit, soak nuts and dried fruit, blend your foods, or dehydrate your foods.

Start your raw food diet today! I have provided for you a sample meal plan, but of course your personal meal choices can and should vary.

BREAKFAST: Fresh fruit salad topped with almonds and pumpkin seeds; and a side of coconut milk.

LUNCH: Salad with veggies, sprouted lentils, seed cheese and olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.

DINNER: Raw vegetables blended to a soup, half an avocado, fruit and sun tea.

Raw foods add fiber to your diet and assist in optimum colon health. Using an herbal colon cleanser like Co-Clean will also improve colon health by promoting increased energy, improved concentration, clearer sinuses, clearer skin and weight loss as the backed up toxins are purged from the digestive system.

Raw Food Diet - How it Affects a Person's Fertility With YANG Constitution in TCM Perspective
By Kyle J Norton

I. Introduction
A. What is a typical American raw food diet
The raw food diet is defined as a type of diet of which at least 75% of the daily diet must be unprocessed and uncooked foods or foods can not be heating above 115 degree of Fahrenheit or 40 C, including fresh fruit and vegetables and raw meats. A typical American raw food diet contains mostly yin and dampness pathogen, including mostly raw fruits, vegetables and nuts and seeds.

B. What is a person with yang constitution
According to traditional Chinese medicine, yang constitution is genetic passing through pattern which you inherited from either one of your parent. It represents in the deep layer in your body. A person with yang constitution tend to have
1. Red tongue
2. Red face
3. Constipation
4. Dense menstrual flow
5. Nightmare
6. Prefer cooler drink.
7. Etc

II. How raw foods affect fertility
A person with yang constitution may initially benefit from raw foods diet. Since the body is slightly yang excessive, raw foods help to reduce the yang, thus balancing the yin and yang imbalance. But over a prolong period of raw foods intake, it will cause yang qi imbalance, although, it is not severe than a person with yin constitution.

1. Spleen
Spleen is considered as an organ in aiding the digestive system in absorbing vital nutrients and convert them to energy for the body's need. Although person with yang constitution may take longer and symptoms may not be as severe as a person with yin constitution, but over a prolong period of time in taking raw food diet, it causes dysfunction of spleen in foods digestion, leading to nutrients deficiency of which triggers the primitive brain function in diverting blood aways from the reproductive organ for energy conversation.

Prolong intake of raw foods may decrease the yang qi in the kidney, leading to symptoms of fluid retention, that interferes with function of lung in absorbing enough oxygen for our body, causing nervous tension such as fatigue, tiredness and loss of memory and reducing the production of progesterone and testosterone, leading to lower sperm count in men and abnormal in the yang phrase in women menstrual cycle.

Free Raw Food Recipe - Best Blueberry Or Blackberry Pie Raw Recipe
By Helen Hecker Platinum Quality Author

If you're looking for a healthy alternative to cooked berry pies or even cooked desserts that are laden with unhealthy fats and sugars, why not try my live-food, free, easy, raw berry pie recipe. Many people are gradually making the switch from cooked desserts and cooked foods which are causing so many of our health problems today. It doesn't matter if you're a raw fooder or eat the standard American diet; you'll love this raw berry pie recipe and know that you're doing your body good in the process.

In fact making a raw berry pie does not require turning on the oven and can be made in virtually minutes. I have often timed myself and can make this pie in ten minutes or less if the ingredients are assembled. Equipment: food processor.

This is my own creation, one of many vegetarian, vegan and raw food recipes that I have developed and created over the past few years as a raw fooder - eating raw foods, having cured myself of breast cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis and sinus infections along with many other ailments.

You can use the pie crust for dozens of other types of raw food recipes or live pies including raw or live apple pie. I've experimented with dozens of variations and tried various ingredients but I've found this raw blackberry or blueberry pie recipe is the best, fastest and easiest recipe to make. In fact if you're going to have company coming over you can whip this free raw food diet recipe up in no time.

Helen's Best Raw Berry Pie - the ingredients: 12 organic medjool dates, 1 cup raw pecans, 4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries, blackberries or boysenberries and 2 bananas.

For the crust put 1 cup of raw pecans in a food processor and grind until fine. Add 8 pitted organic medjool dates and process until mixed fairly well. Place into a 9-inch pie plate.

For the binder mix two bananas, 8 berries or so for color and 4 medjool dates in a food processor - use the same food processor - don't need to wash it. Remove to large bowl and carefully fold in 4 cups of fresh or frozen or partially frozen blueberries, boysenberries or blackberries. Spread berry-binder mixture on top of the crust. Decorate with boysenberries or blackberries around the edge of the pie. Refrigerate.

This live or raw berry pie is a family favorite and one I have served on many occasions to company who are not aware they are eating something healthy containing all the vibrant nutrients - nothing cooked out.

This pie is really good with boysenberries too. You can also slice some fresh kiwi on the top or other fruits that won't turn color.

One nice thing to know about fixing any raw food recipe is that you can eliminate, substitute or add ingredients easily and it will still taste delicious! In this vegan or raw food diet recipe - you may only have one banana on hand for example or you can make half the recipe. You can substitute the pecans for a mixture of one half cup pecans and one half cup walnuts, or all walnuts.

If you live in an area where you have tons of wild blackberries you can make this pie for pennies. Pick blueberries cheaply in the summer and freeze them for year-round use, although fresh berries are always the best. You can make raw berry pies with this free raw food recipe year-round and you'll feel good too knowing you have served your friends and family something that will help them better their health and help them lose weight if they need to too.

Raw Food Diet & Disease Reversal
By Joseph F Platinum Quality Author

Is it really possible to reverse disease with a raw food diet? Technically speaking, food itself doesn't "heal." But ingesting the right diet is one of the most powerful things anyone can do to help their body heal itself. So in one sense, it can be said that a raw food diet can reverse disease.

This idea still sounds crazy to most people because they've never experience or seen this reality for themselves. It's true though.

Sometime in early 1990s my mother in law came to our home for a visit and brought a magazine about health and nutrition with her called, "Back to the Garden." It was published by an organization that claimed individuals who went on their version of a mostly raw, plant-based diet could experience incredible health results, including recovery from serious diseases.

At first glance I thought the claims seemed outrageous. They seemed to be like the wild claims made by the snake oil salesman depicted in cowboy movies, who claimed their "tonic" would cure everything from baldness to consumption.

I read the testimonials in the magazine though. There was something about them that seemed genuine, even though the organization's claims about health recovery seemed far-fetched at the time. Those testimonials, however, planted a seed in my thinking... one that later led me to consider there may be some bit of plausibility in what was being said.

As time when on I occasionally read similar claims made by others in the raw, living food community. I eventually read what seemed to be hundreds of stories about individuals who experienced instances of dramatic disease reversal once they had abandoned a Standard American Diet in favor of a mostly raw plant-based diet.

Since I'm a writer by trade I decided to interview some individuals this past year who claimed their health (and lives) were turned around after they started consuming diets that consisted of somewhere between 85% - 100% raw food. Talking with these individuals really blew me away. Not only were their stories incredible, but their genuineness and sincere desire to help others through sharing their testimonies of healing for the new book I was writing really impressed me.

These stories can be found in the book, "Living Food Cures." To see a summary of the stories found inside it go to http://www.livingfoodcures.com/Book/Living-Food-Cures-Book.html and view the site's blog for some incredible videos and other compelling information.

The Basics of a Raw Food Diet
By Marilyn Reid Platinum Quality Author

Raw, natural, organic, and uncooked food-this is the concept around which raw food diets revolve. These diets promote the consumption of food in their most basic form-from fresh fruits and vegetables to uncooked fish and meat, as well as unprocessed dairy products. Raw food advocates believe that cooking food strips it of its necessary nutrients and destroy important enzymes, causing deficiencies and health problems. To achieve good health and enjoy overall well-being, going for raw and natural food is advised.

The Components

The major components of raw food diets are organic food. Among these are the following:

• Fruits and vegetables (dried, juiced, or simply fresh)
• Seeds, beans, and nuts
• Seaweed
• Sprouts
• Whole grains
• Raw milk and other milk derivatives like yogurt and cheese
• Raw fish (like smoked fish or sashimi)
• Raw meat (like cured meat)

Being fresh and unprocessed, many of these foods are easy to prepare. However, there are others that require overnight preparation like soaking. There are food paraphernalia and kitchen equipment common to all raw foodists like juicer, food processor, dehydrator, and blender.

The Benefits

Aside from the fact that the raw food eating pattern is more practical, cheaper, and easier to prepare, it's also a great way to lose weight and it also offers a lot of health benefits. Among these are the following:

• It improves digestion due to its preservation of digestion-enhancing enzymes
• It reduces unhealthy fats and heart risks
• It reduces the occurrence of certain types of cancer
• It also reduces occurrence of cold and flu
• It gives more energy-even if you eat only a small amount of food
• It's proven to improve the health of the skin, as well as to make a person look younger

Well, raw food diet covers everything-from health to beauty. With all its benefits, no wonder it's attracting a lot of people. Among the known advocates of raw food diets are David Wolfe and Aajonus Vonderplanitz, and among the Hollywood celebrities known for following these diets are Mel Gibson and Demi Moore.

Risks Posed

With the growing popularity of this diet, is it really all that safe? How safe is it to eat raw? Are there considerations that every raw foodist must remember? Well, raw food diet is healthy, but there are some reminders and risks.

1. RawFoodDiet is rich in vitamins. However, it also lacks some nutrients. Among these are vitamin B12 and iron, lycopene, calcium, omega 3, and vitamin D. Therefore, for those who are going into this kind of diet, taking vitamin supplements may be needed.

2. One risk with raw food is food poisoning. For one, fruits and vegetables are exposed to pesticides. And, there are also plants that may not be good when eaten raw. Therefore, if you're eating raw food, choose the food carefully and do your research. Thoroughly wash and clean the food as well before preparing it.

With all these guidelines in mind, you can now go into raw food diets and enjoy all the benefits while avoiding the risks.

Raw Food Diets - 5 Benefits of a Raw Food Diet That You Should Know
By Anna Dean Platinum Quality Author

When starting out on a raw food diet it will be prudent to get some perspective as to where you stand right now. First and foremost, don't just accept the hype surrounding raw food diets and just jump into it. Rather take it slowly and easily and incorporate a raw food diet into your daily life. So here are the most important things that you should know when starting out on a raw food diet:

a. Raw food is rich in dietary fiber: This is almost critically important to maintaining a good digestive system, in fact every stomach related problems from stomach burns to gastritis, constipation and even appendicitis.
b. Raw food is high in caretenoids like beta-carotene which is extremely important in protecting you against cancer and other life threatening ailments.
c. You can eat as much as you like and still not get fat.
d. It can help you conquer obesity and help you stay slim.
e. It can boost your body's natural defenses against colds, flu, measles etc.

Clearly even just incorporating a raw vegan food diet in bits can yield more benefits that you can enjoy. The biggest fact that will most probably stop you is the "routine" that you have become acclimatized to. You know the old 3 meals a day routine that is so common everywhere. While being an office goer might warrant the need to have three meals a day (although by no means necessary) you should try to have little "snacks" or "mini-meals" several times a day. Eat only as much as you feel like. The biggest problem with the three meal routine is that people end up literally stuffing themselves as they wont get to eat for many hours.

Try some raw recipes and see what works for you, in the end only you have to gain and there is absolutely nothing to lose.

Raw food has remained way too underrated however eating raw vegan food is becoming more and more popular these days as it is the most healthiest choice of foods available. Raw food is both delicious and incredibly nutritious. There is no way that reading this article will give you the incredible taste and feeling that eating raw food does; try some raw recipes and see the difference it makes!

Should You Eat Grains on a Raw Food Diet?
By Swayze Foster Platinum Quality Author

It is no secret that we as a species consume a lot of cereal grains. It's in our breakfast, our lunches, our side dishes and entrees. It's in our Mexican, Italian, and Chinese staples.

Grains even make up most of our favorite snacks and desserts.

And according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society, this is a good thing. These institutions feel that "whole" grains, such as wheat and brown rice, should be the foundation of a healthy diet.

Do you wanna know what I think? (Since you're reading my blog, I'm going to assume that you do.)

The USDA, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society are completely WRONG. You do NOT need grains to be healthy. In fact, it will serve you well to completely eliminate them from your raw food diet.

Would You Eat Them Raw?

Seems like a silly question, but bear with me here for a moment.

If you were out in the wild foraging for food and you came across a field of wheat, would you be inclined to it some?

Would your mouth water at the sight of uncooked, unprocessed, unseasoned wheat kernels?

For the 1% of you who answered yes, I have to wonder about the possible fowl genetics present in your lineage. ;)

On a more serious note, eating raw grains is not just unappetizing to the human palate. In Grain Damage: Rethinking the High-Starch Diet, Dr. Douglas Graham writes:

At best, raw grains taste unpleasant and bitter, even when they are sprouted. More often, they are inedible or poisonous if eaten in the field. Even birds, the only natural grain eaters, feed their young on insects, as grains are deficient in protein and nutrients.

On the other hand, ripe fruit is instantly appealing to our senses. It's beautiful to look at. Its smell makes us salivate. It gives nicely in our hands.

Last but not least, fruit tastes wonderful. What sane person can honestly resist a perfectly ripe peach or a fragrant muskmelon?

What About Cooked Grains?

You may be thinking that cooking grains is a better option than eating them raw.

Think again.

When a complex carbohydrate food such as wheat or barley is heated, the molecules of the food are fused together into a glue-like substance. Even though cooking has broken down the complex starches into simple glucose, the body must do extra work to process the now chemically fused molecules.

This presents a huge problem in terms of blood-sugar levels. In Left In the Dark, authors Graham Glynn and Tony Wright write:

Carbohydrates also appear to be problematic when eaten in large amounts. A diet high in carbohydrates, especially refined carbohydrates (cakes biscuits, pasta, etc.) dumps large amounts of glucose rapidly into our bloodstream. This can cause insulin resistance in which the absorption of glucose from the bloodstream is disrupted. This in turn can lead to obesity, adult onset diabetes, hypertension, heart attacks and strokes.

And a little further down the page:

"If we compare refined carbohydrates with fruit we can see that fruit has a much lower glycemic index, which means it is digested more slowly thus avoiding the problems of the 'glucose rush.'"

But that's not all! Here are some more problems associated with eating cooked grains:

  • Migraines
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Depression
  • Crohn's disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Autism

But Humans Have Been Eating Grains For Thousands of Years!

While 10-30,000 years may seem like a long time to we humans with a mere 100-year life span (at best), it is but a flash in the pan evolutionarily speaking.

Here is an excerpt from Human Diet: Its Origin and Evolution on the increased consumption of grains since the Neolithic Period (when humans settled down and began farming extensively):

Becoming dependent on grains reduced intake of fruits and vegetables, often to 20% or less of total energy intake. Accordingly, access to micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals) previously supplied by fruits and vegetables was substantially decreased.

Of course, cereal grains also provide micronutrients, but not necessarily those to which human biology became accustomed throughout a multimillion-year evolutionary experience, during which fruits and vegetables were the overwhelmingly dominant plant foods.

Quite simply, we have not been consuming a diet high in grains long enough for our anatomy and physiology to have adapted to them.

And anyway, grains do not fulfill our nutritional needs as fruits and vegetables do. For instance, they are very low in vitamins A, B, and C and sodium and calcium.

This is why when you pick up a box of cereal or whole wheat pasta, you will often see "Fortified with," preceded by a host of vitamins and minerals that have been added to the product.

Not only that, but certain properties in grains affects absorption of vital nutrients within the body. It is now known that grain consumption decreases Vitamin D absorption.

And while many proponents of a grain-based diet site fiber as a reason to indulge, there is a huge caveat here. You see, the fibers in grains are not water-soluble like those present in fruits and vegetables; they are insoluble.

This means that they lack the ability to absorb water and move comfortably through the body. Think of a harsh bristle brush slowly making its way down your digestive track.

Yikes!

Leave It To the Birds

In short, there is no reason for you to consume grains. Raw or cooked, they are completely inferior to raw fruits and vegetables.

If you are having trouble consuming enough calories on a raw food diet, there is no need to turn to sprouting grains...or legumes for that matter. Simply increasing your consumption of sweet fruit until you feel satisfied will do the trick.

Remember, fruit always comes first.
